First of all, whenever you visit any big stores, check out their address/contact information. If you see any website, directly approach them there itself, proclaiming yourself as one of the Expert SEO in China. Explain all benefits of Search Engine Optimization to them.

The question really needs to indicate how long you are going to be waiting before launching a real site.

Some of the suggestions here are amazing to me but remind me how difficult SEO is still for some people.

A search engine sends spiders based on inclusion requests and based on links from a site pointing to your site.

If you have a 404 page on your site then the bot will try again later. No matter what it is way to easy to put a single coming soon page on your domain not to do it.

Forget SEO a second. Why would you want to ever have a 404. Create a quick coming soon page and put it up if only for the visitors who might visit your site.

For SEO you are not going to hurt your SEO only having a single coming soon page. In fact you should make it a few pages. Have a coming soon page with a footer that includes an organization page, a contact us section, and an about us page.

Make sure you follow the basic SEO factors and have a good TITLE and H1 tags. Include your meta and put a good paragraph or two on the page that uses some keywords and sets up the product or service you will be bringing when the site is launched.

Short answer.. 404 is never good so build a coming soon.

As a copywriter and SEO expert I would like to add, word count is not so important for the SEO.

Important is keyword density regarding specific page and whole website.

Just try to make your content informative and keywords rich, good to start with optimization on both yahoo and google.

300~600 words is the best choice, but to get better SEO, you need to focus on the keyword density as well

I think it’s mainly marketing companies and pundits comitted to non-SEO web marketing methods like CPC and CPA. SEO can only increase as free search engines are not going anywhere and web 3.0 is starting to awaken. Google will never go all-pay-for-play.

I fear that what you heard is wrong. SEO is still alive. It seems SEO is dying because of the scams in the field. Moreover, most people are not aware of the new opportunities in SEO. For example google has also stepped into social media through google knol. It will be crystal clear to you that the focus is on social media today.
