Not So Captivating Capiz

Capiz is located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.  The capital city is Roxas city pinned on the north-east part of Panay Island.  Why Captivating Capiz? What is so captivating to this place?  What is so special about Capiz?

Capiz Shells and Mangoes

It is known for its shells, called Capiz Shells. These low-cost shells are used for decorations, lampshades and window doors, vases, decorations, and lanterns.  For us, these shells may be just an ordinary shell, but mind you, it is considered as a worldclass product and there is a high demand for these shells wordlwide.  You also will probably agree that the mangoes in Capiz are just freaking sweet.  The sweetest Mangoes, located in Guimaras are of export quality and considered to be one of the best source of this variety of fruit in the Philippines.

Seafood Capital of the Philippines

With it’s vast 80-kilometer coastline and converted fishponds, Capiz is dubbed as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines.  It is considered as one of the major contributor in the fishing industry because of its rich fishing grounds or ponds.  With this light, these attract investers to venture into other aquamarine businesses like prawn culture, feeds, seaweed farming and the like.

What is Not Good About Capiz

This segment is not what’s not GOOD ABOUT Capiz, but what is not good about the perception of Capiz to other filipinos.  When I was a kid, people talk about this province as a home for ghouls and supernatural phenomenons.  One would be the kama-kama, which are actually gnomes living in earth mounds or what we called in tagalog “nuno sa punso.” Another is the tamawu or taglugar which are considered spirits that can be either friendly or evil. The ever popular mananaggal or what they described as a person cut in half with wings, just like jeepers creepers, only cut in half.  Rumor has it that it actually hunts for pregnant women and eat the infant inside the womb.

These myths, folklore had somehow damaged Capiz.  This may be the  case but the people and government officials of the province are doing their best to promote Captivating Capiz and if i would weigh the good and bad points about this province, I would say, I am still undecided. Since I am not from that province and never been there whole my life, what can you say about Capiz?  How would you convince people to go to Capiz?
