Emmons Grabbed the First Gold Medal at the Beijing Olympics
The very first gold medal of the 2008 Beijing Olympics was won by Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic. Emmons, 24, grabbed the gold medal for the Women’s 10m Air Rifle.
An Olympic Record by Chen Xiexia of China
Chen Xiexia of China, with her excellent performance completed all attempts for a gold medal finish with 95kg in the Snatch and 117kg in the Clean and Jerk which had a total of 212kg and placed her to have a new olympic record. Sibel Ozkan came at second with a total of 199kg for both snatch and Clean and Jerk. Chen Wei-Ling of Taipei grabbed the bronze with a 196kg finish.
